Chrystal Cliffs: Easy Hike To Unbelievable View
Chrystal Cliffs Hiking Trail at Tettegouche State Park
Looking for a quick hike to unbelievable Lake Superior Views? Then this North Shore MN hiking trail is for you! Hike to the edge of the cliffs around Crystal Bay at Tettegouche State Park.
This North Shore MN hiking trail is within Tettegouche State Park, but you’ll want to park along Highway 61. There is a pull-off just east of Highway 1 and Chrystal Creek. You probably wouldn’t notice it if you weren’t looking.
Head to Chrystal Cliffs
There are two trails here. One goes downhill towards Chrystal Creek and to Chrystal Bay Beach. But today we’re going uphill to the cliffs. Follow the trail going over the hill, there’s a yellow State Park sign marking it.
In July (at the time of my visit), the forest is like a jungle because of the thick and lush fauna. After I saw this, it reminded me to go back to the car to apply a healthy coating of bug spray (glad I did)! The first part of the trail is a skinny path between overgrown foliage.
Not far down the path, the jungle opens up to a rocky landscape with smaller shrubs, tall pines, and an incredible cliff-top view of Lake Superior! There’s lots of space to explore the rocky cliff and see the view from different angles.
Chrystal bay is surrounded by tall cliffs. It is amazing to stand at the top and see the cliffs surrounding the entire bay! It’s a little surreal to stand near the edge of these ancient rock formations and take in the breathtaking sight!
Pop-up thunderstorms were happening up and down the North Shore. The one below was pretty cool to see off in the distance near Tettegouch State Park, Lake Superior. And in the image at the top of this post, you can see the storm behind the cliffs. Cool, huh?!
This is a great North Shore MN Hiking trail if you’re looking for a quick and easy jaunt to an amazing view!
