Description

The Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad (often called “LS&M” or “Duluth River Train”) is a heritage railroad in Duluth, Minnesota that offers scenic, volunteer-run train excursions along the St. Louis River estuary. The modern version of LS&M was re-established in the early 1980s on part of the original 1870 rail corridor — the first rail link between St. Paul and Duluth.

Riders travel in vintage coaches and a 1946 locomotive, with an option to sit in an open-air “safari car” for unobstructed views. The roughly 6-mile round-trip is about 90–110 minutes long, offering historical narration, nature-and-wildlife viewing, and a peaceful journey through forested areas, wetlands, and the riverside habitat.
